Cutest. Picture. Evar.

So, let me just say that I can't believe how long it has taken me to write up a post to go with this, the most adorable picture ever of the cutest baby on the planet. Even my most jaded friends admit that Kaia is one incredibly cute kid. We joked that we should probably register her as a deadly weapon, as, when she aims her full cuteness directly at you it could kill a mere mortal (sleep-deprived parents and hard working nannies are, luckily for us, partially immune).

Today I am particularly immune since I was awakened FOUR separate times last night by our little darling who is either experiencing a growth spurt or baby insomnia. Really, if they made baby ambien they would make a fortune. She's actually been pretty good about sleeping up until now (since the memo, actually) so I hope it's an anomaly. I'm taking her out to dinner tonight with me, and hope that she'll fall asleep in the car on the way home, and allow me to transfer her directly to bed. We decided to get rid of the moses basket she's been sleeping in today, so that may have a positive OR negative impact on sleep. We'll have to do it eventually, so I figure I might as well bite the bullet. We'll also eventually have to break her of nursing to fall asleep, which will likely be more difficult. For now, it's certainly an easy way to get her down at night.

I have a new mobile on the way from my friends Gene and Chris, so perhaps that will help with the bedtime ritual. We're going to start evening bathtime, book reading, and relaxation next week. New weigh in next Tuesday, stay tuned. She's getting heavier for SURE.

The Sleeping Through the Night Memo

Re: Sleeping Through the Night

It has come to our attention that there may be some confusion about the policy on sleeping through the night, based on some recently reported research. In the highly regarded book, "Your Baby's First Year, Week by Week," the chapter on week 11 of life clearly states ". . .by this time, your baby will likely be sleeping through the night. . ." The book goes on to define sleeping through the night as NOT WAKING UP between the hours of midnight and 5 am.
During the past week, we have repeatedly been awakened at times ranging from 1:30 am to 4:00 am (which is almost, but definitely NOT 5:00 am), and occasionally been awakened more than once during this timeframe on the same night. This is clearly out of compliance with the stated policy quoted above. We would very much appreciate your addressing this issue as soon as possible.
Please note that if it is NOT possible for you to comply in the near term with this directive, it would be most appreciated if you would arrange to schedule the specific wake-up period at a consistent time each night so that we can appropriately prepare.
We appreciate your prompt attention to this matter. You have now, officially, gotten the memo.
