Rainy Days

Hi Boo!

You're upstairs sleeping right now, and I'm kind of hoping that the rainy day will translate to a nice long nap for you, since I am enjoying the downtime on the sofa. We had an awfully nice morning with Josie and Bob and their girls Vivienne and Beatrice - Vivi and Bee - playing in their big playroom (look at ALL these NEW TOYS, woo hoo!), and then walking in the rain up to the Kingston farmers market and noshing on chocolate croissants, apples, and cheese. They were kind enough to lend you boots and a raincoat, although you still got wet, of course, and to feed you before we headed home.

It's not everyday that you tell me you're sleepy and that you want a nap now! But crawling back into bed sounds pretty good to me too right now.

You keep growing like a weed - and although you've gotten tall enough for 3Ts they're still a little tight on your tummy - though you're losing that baby fat pretty quickly. And TALKING! My goodness. You learn new words every day and honestly at this point I would have a hard time estimating all of the words that you know. In addition to knowing the name of just about every "noun" in the house that I can think of, you've picked up lots of verbs and adjectives as well - running, jumping, playing, talking, walking, climbing, sitting, standing, you name it - and today you asked me to "drive faster" as I was coming up the driveway (you're not always a daredevil, the other day you told me "mommy drive fast. . .be careful Mommy.")

It's really fun to have conversations with you, and you're developing a cute sense of humor - you like it when you feed me dog food (yuck) and I spit it out saying "pitoey, pitoey." We haven't figured out the potty thing quite yet, although it's coming along. Funny - today while we were at the market I heard you fart a couple of times and so I said "Kaia, come on, let's go sit on the potty." "No thank you," you replied. I insisted, got you on the potty, and then you sat and said "I can't." We waited a few minutes and I gave up. Then, as you are running down the sidewalk, i hear "poot, poot, poot, poot" and realize it's your BOOTS that are making the fart noises. Sorry - should have believed you when you said no!

Anyway, love, I need to get daddy a new camera so we can take more pictures and I can post them, but for now, this post will have to be pictureless. I love you, Kaia-boo.

Kaia is SOOO cute

Mommy to Kaia on the way home from the Walkway over the Hudson opening: "Kaia, do you want mommy to buy you a hula hoop?"

Kaia: "Indubitably"

That's my girl.

3 months is a long time for a 2 year old!

It's been 3 months since I wrote (bad blogger mommy, BAD) and it's unbelievable how much you've changed since the last entry. You are talking up a storm, actual conversations almost, and although you still say no we've gotten that under control and you are really a dream to hang around with. Especially if there's nothing else competing with you for our attention. You're such fun, kiddo!

I have been traveling a LOT for work lately, which I don't love, and you've been really good about not misbehaving for Daddy when I am not here. Of course, it breaks my heart to hear that when Daddy gets you up in the morning you ask "where's Mommy" and when told that I had to go on an airplane to work, you got all choked up and ran into our room looking for me. :-(

I sure do miss you when I am out of town, too. I need to take my webcam with me and re-initiate my use of Skype, since that's about the best way I can think of to talk to you, rather than trying to get your attention on the phone.

You've also SHOT up in height - most of your 2 year old clothes don't fit at all anymore and you're in the 3 year old toddler stuff - and not even with the pants rolled up or anything! You're still a good eater, although you'll tend to lose interest in the middle of a meal and get up and wander off to look at a toy, or ask to watch Winnie the Pooh. "Watch Winnie Pooh?" you say.

And although we're not really making a lot of progress on the potty training thing, I have to admit I don't really care a bit. I know you'll decide when you want to go on the potty instead of a diaper, and then just do it. The truth is, diapers are pretty convenient - I don't have to stop all the time or ask if you need to go potty.

I love you Boo, as always. You're getting smarter and more wonderful by the day.
