Acute Baby Syndrome

So, yesterday was Kaia's 6 month "birthday." She's officially one-half a year old. I can't believe it. It's especially weird to realize how much has changed in those 6 short months - she's already pursuing her consulting career, for goodness sake!
She went for her 5 month checkup (I know, I'm behind by a month) Wednesday, and she weighs in at 17 pounds - and 27 and a half inches - 90% percentile for height, a little lower (more like 75%) for weight. She's aiming to be tall and thin (lucky girl). She only had to get one shot this time (unlike last time, when she had to get THREE), and she is such a trooper that she didn't even cry. Gonna be a tough girl like her Mama.
I went on another business trip this week - to Indianapolis. While I was gone, Kaia apparently said "Mama" for the first time. It was late, she was fussy and wanted her bottle and to go to sleep, and she said "MaaaMaaa." Jason told me over the phone and I swear it nearly broke my heart. My poor sweet girl! She really is getting to be cuter and sweeter every day, and I've fallen HARD in baby love. I honestly didn't know what I was missing before I got to wake up to a baby hug each morning.
Kaia-boo, I sure love you a ton.

Best. Kid. Evar.

So, papa took off yesterday afternoon to the Sandblast Rally. Mom and Boo on their own for the weekend.

I fed you dinner last night, like usual, and then a bottle, and you fell deep, deep asleep. We put you in the car seat to head out to meet Zoe, and you were sleeping, well, like a baby. We got to Kyoto, and POP! You're awake! Luckily, you're totally happy and just intersted in looking around at everyone there, and sitting on Momma, and totally charming everyone. There were two other babies there and you just charmed the crap out of them too. Half made me wanna make a whole little crop of babies to keep you company. . .but never mind.

Anyhoo, I had to head into the city today, and Auntie Dee and Beth were babysitting while I was gone. I thought for sure you'd fall asleep before I came home, but you were WIDE awake and partying when I got here. Mostly that's because of Emmett. Already that kid is leading you down the garden path. Dee tried to get you to sleep, but when I came up to see how you were doing you were just hanging out, looking around. I sure was glad to see you.

When you are just a little bit sleepy you are kind of cuddly and very sweet. Leaning into me. Sitting on my lap quietly and occasionally looking up and smiling. You slay me.

So, I originally started this entry intending to talk about the fact that when I needed 1/2 an hour this morning to get my act together, you basically hung in the crib without complaining the whole time. . .I thought you were asleep, you were so quiet. And when I went in to get you, there you were, on your hands and knees, just looking around. And I thought, what on earth did I do to deserve a kid that's so amazing? I don't believe in God but I thanked her today on my way to the train for giving me the best kid on the planet. Go figure.

Anyhoo, Boo kiddo. You continue to amaze me. I love you more and more each day.
