Nanny Diaries

So, it's been quite a while since I've written! Part of the reason is that I've started traveling quite a bit for work lately, but the biggest reason is that we've been having nanny issues. Nina has been such a phenomenal nanny for Kaia for the past 7 months, but she's been making noises for some time now that she needs more money. 3 weeks ago on Monday, she came to us and said "I've taken another job in the evenings, and now I need to drop off Kaia at 4 every day." I was floored! So, I told Nina that I needed to find someone else, and we've spent the past couple of weeks interviewing, trying to find short-term coverage, etc.

This week, we originally thought Nina would at least cover the daytimes, but I was out of town Monday through Wednesday, and Jason was working Monday night. . .so we asked Barbara Schade, who had volunteered to watch her sometime, to come up and give her dinner, and put her to bed. Here's her summary of the experience:

Now that I've cleaned the baby food off my glasses I can see to type this. Everything went fine. She is a dream. What a happy, secure little kid. Looking back on it, I think she was tired and could have gone to bed earlier, she barely drank 2oz before rubbing her eyes and then promptly closing them. I probably could have done the dinner thing a bit quicker too.

Next time. She doesn't seem to like that Gerber stuff a lot, does she? Much prefers the Cheerios, biscuit and banana! Ron got delayed dropping off our car in Wapp Falls and so didn't get me anything very interesting for dinner, a situation which necessitated my devouring the brie. He joined me for the Zin on his way home around 8:30. I didn't want you to think I drank the whole bottle myself (although I'm perfectly capable of it as you well know, but not when on baby duty). I read some whacky David Foster Wallace stuff on the doggie sofa with Daisy till Jason got home. We didn't even hear him sneak in. The new front doors are great. What a difference. Have a good week. See you soon, xxb

Anyway, I think that speaks better than I could about how you are doing lately, my littlest Boo. You're crawling, pulling yourself up on everything, exploring, and just generally keeping us on our toes. So, as I like to sing to you. . ."fuzzy little snuggle puppy, I love you!"
